Penthouse Mathilde is a luxury apartment in the exclusive Les Barmes des Mossettes development in the centre of Morzine. The nearest lift is only 500m away, and the restaurants, bars and shops of Morzine are all on your doorstep. The apartment sleeps up to 9 guests in 4 bedrooms, and boasts luxury interiors by international designers Laughland Jones.
The apartment is the only penthouse in the development, being set over two floors. On the entrance level you will find 3 of the 4 bedrooms, each with its own en suite facilities. The bedrooms all feature luxury bed linen, and of course amenities from our spa partner, Bamford. Moving upstairs, there is a large open plan living space with a feature fireplace and floor to ceiling windows offering views out over the village and surrounding mountains. A separate bar and mezzanine area offset from the living room has a bespoke bar to prepare drinks each evening, or the opportunity to hide away with a good book. A wrap around balcony provides spacious terracing, and is home to a large, 6 seat hot tub. There are also several seating areas from which to take in the view, or enjoy dining alfresco in the warmer months.
The specification of the apartment is of the highest level. Much of the furniture and fabrics are from Timothy Oulton, and there are wall coverings by Inkiostro Bianco, and artwork from renowned photographer Steve McCurry and contemporary British artist Dave White. The kitchen is fully equipped with high end appliances from Bosch, Siemens and Bora. You’ll also find the latest audio-visual technology, and a games console for the kids – big and small alike.

When we started looking for a home in the resort we were immediately drawn to the location of Les Barmes des Mossettes. It’s central – you can walk to the ski lift in less than 10 minutes – but not too central. We have views and a level of privacy that wouldn’t be afforded in the centre of town. It also felt like fate that one of our favourite restaurants, La Chaudanne, was just over the road, so a superb evening out is, quite literally, on the doorstep.
Our main tip for our guests is to explore the Super Morzine and Ardent sectors. These provide a real variety of skiing, and the unique village of Lindarets, aka ‘the Goat Village’. This is a must at any time of the year as it has some fantastic restaurants, but if you’re visiting in the summer you’ll also get to witness the plethora of goats, from where the village gets its nickname, who have the right to roam freely.
When we came to design the interior of Penthouse Mathilde we knew we wanted to create a truly luxurious feeling, matched with a home away from home comfort. It was important to us to blend some of our own tastes and style, but to also ensure they were incorporated into a first class scheme, which is why we chose to appoint Laughland Jones to oversee all the finishes in the apartment. The result is something we’re truly proud of, and we hope that our guests will get to share an appreciation of what makes this area so special to us.
HIGHLIGHTS
Everything is on your doorstep; ski lifts, restaurants, bars and shops are all easily accessible by foot. There’s a good-sized convenience store almost next door and one of our favourite restaurants, La Chaudanne, is just across the road. A three-minute stroll gets you to La Ferme de la Fruitière for the best fondue in town, while another couple of minutes and you’re at the Super Morzine lift, for easy access to the snow-sure pistes of Avoriaz.
Don’t be fooled by the central location, the building was designed by renowned local architect Herve Marullaz who has framed the views of the surrounding mountains superbly. When you first approach at street level you have no idea how much the view will open up once you reach the penthouse.

LOCATION
Les Barmes des Mossettes is ideally located in the centre of Morzine. You’re only 500m from the Super Morzine lift which gives access to the extensive skiing of the Portes du Soleil. One of our favourite restaurants – La Chaudanne – is opposite the apartment building and we would recommend joining Thierry and his team at least once during your stay. Shops and other facilities are also on your doorstep meaning everything is accessible on foot.
